Passengers complained they were left alone in Venice, no replacement aircraft was dispatched and they were left without information and without accomodation. A number of small kids were crying. The airline replied to them that they had no control over what facilities were available to them at the airport and reassured the passengers they really were "working hard to find the best solution in a difficult situation for everyone." The airline did no longer reply when the passengers stated in response to that claim that the airline could have sent a replacement aircraft within 8 hours.
A replacement A320-200 registration G-GATP departed Venice in the evening the following day (Jun 26th) and reached Gatwick with a delay of 33.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Venice about 52 hours after landing in Venice.
