The FAA reported a post flight inspection revealed one of the leading edge slats was missing. The occurrence was rated an incident (editorial note: which seems to suggest the slat was still attached until after touchdown, otherwise this should be rated an accident due to affecting flight control).
A passenger (and reader of AVH commenting on Nov 2nd 2018 18:21Z, name and seat number known) reported the passenger was seated at a left hand exit row window about midspan of the left wing. A woman was seated a few seat rows ahead at the left window about abeam of the leading edge of the left wing. The passenger didn't notice anything unusual, however, suddenly during the landing roll the woman began screaming and crying. The passenger heard - without being to identify the origin - some muffled "Oh my god, the wing". Taxi was normal, flight attendants took care of the lady, she was provided with a blanket from business class and she was wrapped tightly in, still was crying and shaking. During disembarkation somebody mentioned "she thought the wing fell off when we landed". The passenger had thought she was just crazy (breakdown of nerves) and forgot about the event until reading our coverage. The passenger apologized: "Now I feel bad for thinking that lady was just crazy."
