On Aug 11th 2018, more than 2 years later, the NTSB reported (erroneously stating the tail number as N810DZ) that a flight attendant had fallen during the turbulence encounter and had used her hand to protect her head. After she went to the hotel after the flight she reported a injury to her company and went to a hospital where she was diagnosed with a fractured wrist. The NTSB rated the occurrence an accident and is investigating.
On Sep 6th 2018 the NTSB released their final report concluding the probable cause of the accident was:
